No Coolness Needed

Glory be! I am grateful.

No Coolness Needed

Three crows gather on the pole across the street.
No matter that it’s early day, too soon to predict the dark –
they announce its fall.

Each day the dark comes closer.
I need no reminding, crow. I sleep
dream deep, my arches flatten,
my spine sinks into itself.

You might do a better job if
you would share your flight. Use your
squawks to pillow my feet and plump
my breasts. Shade my silver with your
glossy black. Then your reminders
wouldn’t be unnecessary.
