Haiku for Crimson Dragonfly

July 24, 2010 § 3 Comments

We have an abundance of dragonflies in Austin and I saw a Neon Skimmer today during my walk on the greenbelt. Apparently Neon Skimmers are common here, but not for me – it was my first.

Here are three haikus in their honor:
(I was experimenting with several themes in the descriptions: reeds, jewels, and the color red. I see dragonflies as nature’s jewels and love seeing them, since they only thrive where the environment is healthy.)

three dragonflies dart
iridescent slender wings
jewels among the reeds

crimson dragonfly
ruby queen, a Christmas light
poppy in the reeds

darting jewels flash bright
tapping circles on the pond
dreams are on their way
