April 20 ’10: Heroes

April 20, 2010 § 8 Comments

Today’s ReadWritePoem instructions: Write a poem in which you to pay tribute to your hero, past or present.

To paraphrase the old Lay’s potato chip commercial, “I can’t choose just one.”

Line them up:

A short, dumpy woman with a glowing smile
                A bearded, unbathed Australian
                An oddly introverted theater buff
A  stranger who said it would be OK
A friend who waits hours in the ER
Who hoists their family every day
Who wakes and decides to live
                Who chooses always
                Who loves deeply
                Who waits
