April 17 ’10: Another Day in Mammoth Land

Oh, my poeting/blogging buddy Neil Reid wrote Today’s ReadWritePoem prompt. Alright, Neil! And what came is based on a news story I read recently.

Another Day in Mammoth Land

we claim their giant bones, exposed
by glacial tears, and pose against
manipulated roars, hairy legged

hidden souls carve modern relics
from their tusks, no place now
for splitting trees and fierce

posturing as their wares are
hawked, artists fling remnants
back to earth for another burial
