Oddest Book Title of the Year ’09

February 13, 2010 § 9 Comments

Do you remember last year’s Diagram Prize winner? The 2009-2014 World Outlook for 60-milligram Containers of Fromage Frais took top honors from a  short list of contenders.

According to The Bookseller’s Horace Bent, he received a record number of submissions this year, which he believes were generated by Twitter. So who says tweeting can’t be useful? It supported last year’s Green Revolution in Iran, and now has created The Bookseller’s first “Very Long List” of contenders, which includes The Origin of Faeces, Collectible Spoons of the Third Reich, The Master Cheesemakers of Wisconsin. And Mickey Mouse, Hitler and Nazi Germany, Is the Rectum a Grave? and Peek-a-poo: What’s in Your Diaper? Whew. What a competition.

The shortlist will be announced on 19th February and then we can vote for our favorite. According to The Bookseller, “The title with the most votes by the closing date (21st March) will be crowned the winner—to be officially revealed on Friday 26th March.”

On the Very Long List, my favorite is A Tortilla is Like Life. It must be the Austinite in me.
