Nov 14 09: If the Moon is Blue
November 14, 2009 § 5 Comments
“For today’s prompt, I want you to write a poem involving lines. There are several possible lines you could write about: shopping lines, pick-up lines, lines from movies or songs, lines drawn in the sand, lines that should not be crossed (physically or emotionally), and so on. If all else fails, remember: All poems consist of lines.” Poetic Asides.
If the Moon is Blue
I admit it. I hold words close.
I hoard my thoughts the way
Mother Goose hides her children
underneath her skirt – only faint chirps giving
them away. My thoughts are precious to me,
fragile. They chip and splinter into shards with
a flea’s sideways glance. They dissolve
when struck by a dewdrop’s silver gleam.
To know them, you must pay the cost
of a banker’s suicide or an excursion
to the Alps. But… if the moon is blue,
I am as generous as a Hawaiian sunset
and a simple what are you thinking,
darling will suffice.
