Today’s Poetic Asides prompt was “to write a thankful poem,” not surprising on this day. I like my mother’s new version of our greeting – “Happy Giving Thanks Day.”

My sheets are worn and clean; 
I feel your back pressed warm to mine.
And in your breath I hear the ocean swell.

I wondered when you would be gone,
and you responded my wonder. But you can’t
reclaim the time we spent -
the wonder of your warmth remains.
